SCORM: What is SCORM?

SCORM is an acronym for : Shareable Content Object Reference Model. The SCORM standard was developed around 30 years ago to deal with the challenge of sharing e learning courses by course providers.

How SCORM helps ?

It is a standard followed by e learning course developers which enables them to share courses on different computers using SCORM compliant LMS systems. In a nutshell, a SCORM course is a collection of lessons packaged with instructions which are understood by online LMS (learning management system). Popular versions of SCORM are SCORM 1.2 and SCORM 2014

SCORM and LMS

Shareable content objects are uploaded in an LMS. It helps by way of –

  1. Sharing the course with the students / learners
  2. Taking advantages of many features inbuilt in SCORM compliant course. E.g.
  3. Searching for course in a LMS
  4. Track students performance
  5. Making possible the interaction of the course with LMS so that learner data can be generated which can later be used for reporting and analytics.
  6. Assessing the students
